Chuck Close at some point said “Inspiration is for amateurs - the rest of us just show up and get to work.” I’ve been working under that flag for the last few weeks now.
I can’t say I’ve successfully done the work I want to do, but I’ve definitely done some work and that feels pretty good.
I went to visit a friend of mine in Portland. I was hoping to get some photos while I was there, but all I got are these 2.
Not quite what I was hoping for.
So now that I have the getting-work-done part down, it may be time to step up the quality.
Earlier this week I tried to take myself out of my comfort zone and push myself into a new perspective with a wide angle lens instead of my normal 85. But I don’t know how to shoot with the ultrawide as an every day lens, so the experiment fell through.
Bruce Lee said “I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.” I think i’ll take his advice and hone my skills with lenses i already love and that suit my style to produce work I can be proud of.
So no more whining. It’s time to take some photos.
